Lots of folks have asked me what the plan is for this car. Here’s the current path we’re on: Since the heater fan and wiper motor work perfectly, we’re going to keep the car as a 6 volt machine to stay within budget as best we can. Generator and starter will be rebuilt as 6 volt units. Original numbers-matching motor will be put in storage and I’m building a fresh 2.0 liter engine to take its place. Something with slightly higher compression and a larger carburetor, sporting an aluminum flywheel while retaining the mechanically operated clutch linkage. Although the car has been repainted, the old paintwork has aged well - with a really nice level of patina in the original “Granada” red. Once I get it back on the road, the owner may decide to address some of the minor rust issues it has. Underneath this car is solid as can be, however…. so the scary and tricky metal repairs will be mostly avoided. I’ve spent the last few weeks cleaning, sorting, and repairing wiring, while trying to retain the unique “early era” wiring harness tape style. Modernizing a few things to make the car more reliable while retaining many of the unique details of an early era 02, is the ultimate goal. Stay tuned for more updates on this special little car over the next few months as well as some other fun and unique BMWs!
